An informative talk was delivered by Mr. N. Chandrashekhar, Managing Director, Bhoruka Power Corporation Ltd. on the topic "Growth areas and key concerns for the Indian economy". He started off by bringing to attention the comparison of Indian economy with similar economies in the world and trying to pinpoint the problems with the Indian economy today. According to him the main areas that need addressing are infrastructure, availability of good-quality engineers for doing core-engineering jobs, easy access to capital and removal of restrictions on running businesses. According to him the growth areas in the next few years would be information technology, gems & jewellery, biotechnology, telecommunication, pharma, food processing, medical tourism and non-life insurance sector. He said some of the ways to achieve a better future soon, are to revamp the basic school education, benchmark industries against the best in the world, employment acquisition and convergence dynamics. He challenged the young managers of tomorrow to take up these problems and find a solution to help our motherland grow.

The final talk of the day was delivered by Mr. S. Gopakumar, Head, Manufacturing, Apollo Tyres. The talk was on "Manufacturing and how it has Changed in Apollo Tyres". Mr. Gopakumar talked about how Apollo Tyres Unit present in Kerala was the best unit in the country and yet investors were shy to invest in a company based on Kerala. He said the Apollo Tyres have come a long way from 1999. The graphs he showed the audience proved the point. He said that total employee involvement was the reason for such a wide level of success of the organisation. He also said that quality at source, continual improvement, line balancing, quality function deployment, process approach, lean manufacturing, profit center approach and use of ERP have helped Apollo to become one of the most successful units in India.

The first day of the event concluded with a very soothing Flute performance by world renowned flute maestro Mr. Shashank assisted by B. U. Ganesh Prasad - Violin, V. V. Ramanamurthy - Mridangam, Parupalli Phalgun - Khanjira, Tripunithura Radhakrishnan - Ghatam.
