XLRI, Jamshedpur Celebrates it's Diamond Jubilee year with Ensemble '09

The events that took place on first day included:

War of WITS

A flagship Ensemble event this year War of Wits has prize money to the tune of sixty thousand up for grabs and started off today with the finish slloted for tomorrow. War of Wits is a stimulating assortment of challenging situations bound together by the constraints of time, money and most importantly, human resource.

The situations include a case study requiring decisions on various HR and IR aspects, a resource optimization challenge, a staffing game, an HR and IR quiz, a debate, and a collective bargaining situation.This years finalists teams include MDI, Gurgaon, TISS, Mumbai, IMT, Nagpur and XLRI.

Retailate

This is a marketing simulation game organised by the marketing association of XLRI .The competitors including, many from other B Schools are basically thrust into a simutalted retail atmosphere with cut throat competition and their goal is to survive with highest sales.the event makes for a really innovative one.

Other events included "Adventura" a quiz cum game for the adventure lovers organised by adventure club of XLRI.This year also saw the "Campus Blitzkrieg" which is a new initiative wherein the students of XLRI were given a free hand at conceptualising their own innovative events and the most feasible and innovative ones were held during the day. These included vaious types of quizzes, game shows and debates.

Day 2

Prometheus

Prometheus, the flagship finance event of Ensemble, the management festival at XLRI, was conducted this year by FINAX (The Finance Association at XLRI). L&T bagged the sponsorship of the event for the second year in a row, thus strengthening its brand image among XLRI students. The prize money up for grabs was INR 1.3 lakhs. The fortnight long event consisted of three rounds. The preliminary round, an online case competition, made the participants take the place of the CEO of L&T and find the market value of current business, chart out a strategy for the coming five years and provide revised valuation. On the basis of the performance in the first round, six teams – including teams from IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C, IIM-L and IIM-K were short listed for the subsequent rounds, to be held at XLRI campus. The second round involved presentation of the best entries short listed after the first round before a panel of experts in the area of finance comprising of Executive Vice President N Sivaraman and other key executives from L&T and senior Professors from the Finance Department of XLRI. The final test for the teams involved trading in derivative products innovatively structured by FINAX team. After all the exhaustive spells of brain storming and number crunching the winners were decided on the basis of cumulative performance.
