Measuring the Markets

Charts 1-4 compare the developed and developing markets in terms of size, both absolute and as a proportion of GDP. They show that the measures aren't mutually exclusive, with overlaps occurring in each. For example, the absolute size of the Chinese market places it third in the region, but as a proportion of GDP it ranks behind the developed markets. However, on the latter measure Malaysia and Korea compare favorably with the developed markets. The developing markets' other feature is high but erratic growth rates, as shown in chart 2.
