Similarly, the study by Beegle et al. on crop shocks is open to alternative interpretations, as acknowledged by authors. Further, study by Bhukuth and Ballet on substitutability of adult and child labor is done on brick kiln industry specifically.
Thus, generalization of its results can be done only on a case-to-case basis of industry, considering that brick kiln industry is a home-based industry.

Further, its observations about child labor being used to extract higher advance, etc., by parents is limited to industries of such nature only. However, all these studies, despite their limitations, provide us important universal conclusions as well as pointers to various factors which need to be considered while analyzing child labor problem.

We have discussed a number of policy options (some of them proposed in texts), which can be considered by developing countries to address the problem of child labor. However, effectiveness of these policy measures would depend upon social and economical factors relevant to individual countries.

Concluded.

Dr. Shreyas Goswami and Vineet Jain are the First Year MBA (BM) Students at XLRI, Jamshedpur. While Shreyas is a Doctor by profession, Vineet is a Civil Engineer from Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi University.
