Formation of TIEBU

The rationale for this formation is to offer single point interface through which the companies can deliver telecom services to key corporate customers.
When TIEBU was formed, the revenue from the enterprise business of Tata Group companies was about Rs 282 crores2. The TIEBU target to achieve Rs 5503 crores in revenue by the end of current FY 04. VSNL is likely to get 75 to 80 per cent of these revenues.

To read more about TIEBU please refer Exhibit-4

The Globalization Strategy

VSNL, India's largest 4 private telecom company in international Long Distance services is gradually stretching its feet to other parts of the world.

It has made three acquisitions in the US and three in India within a span of two years ( starting with Gemplex in July 2003 and the latest being Direct Internet Limited in June 2006), and is poised to realize its aim of becoming an end-to-end global telecom services provider.

  • Within a span of three years, VSNL has acquired Gemplex, US; Tyco Global Network, US; Tata Power Broadband and Dishnet DSL's ISP division in India, and Teleglobe, US, thus dramatically expanding its reach and spread of services. The Gemplex deal, which began as a strategic tie-up, enabled VSNL to offer enterprise customers IP-based international virtual private network (VPN) services to over 37 countries and 530 cities1 around the world. It also gave the company a ready customer base in the high traffic regions of the US, Europe and the Far East.

To know more about Vsnl merger and acquisitions please refer Exhibit-5

VSNL's acquisition of Tyco in 2004, a state - of - the -art undersea cable network with approximate length of 60,000 kilometers and the continents of North America, Europe and Asia, has placed it into the big league of international telecom providers.
