An Approach

The best product development approach seems to be a formal team approach. Such teams are known variously as product development teams, design for manufacturability teams, and value engineering teams. Successful product development teams typically have:

1. Support of top management
2. Qualified, experienced leadership with decision-making authority
3. Formal organization of the group or team
4. Training programs to teach the skills and techniques of product development
5. A diverse, cooperative team
6. Adequate staffing, funding, and vender assistance.
