PGDM
Batch 2009-11
International Management Institute, New Delhi

  1. General Questions
  2. Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
  3. Questions related to Group Discussion / Group Exercise
  4. Interview-related Questions
  5. After Joining MBA

Q. Date and location of Interview. Were you given the option to choose? Was the interview date fixed or rescheduled couple of times.
A. The interview was conducted on 4th March 2008 at the IMI campus, New Delhi. The interview date was stated and remained fixed.

Q. Can you tell us about the panel that interviewed you?
A. The panel consisted of two senior faculty members, and one person from the industry.

Q. How long was your interview?
A. It lasted for about 15-20 minutes.

Q. What was the first question? The most interesting question? The most difficult question?
A. The first question asked me to introduce myself. The most interesting question related to my interests in poetry and creative writing. The most difficult question was why didn't I consider a career in the booming real estate sector, given that my father is a real estate agent.

Q. How did you prepare for the interview? While facing the panel, were you confident, did you feel prepared?
A. The mock interviews conducted by T. I. M. E. served as an excellent simulation exercise, providing tremendous insight into one's strength as well as the areas which needed improvement. Besides, I made it a point to read newspapers and magazines regularly, apart from the material provided by T. I. M. E. to keep myself abreast with the latest happenings. The internet also served as a very potent source of information.

Q. Was any feedback given to you? What feedback did you receive from the panel at the end of session?
A. My interview commenced with one of the panelists asking me 'how did you manage to get yourself heard while your group members were getting aggressive - when you spoke, everyone stopped to listen to you'. There was no feedback at the end of the interview.

Q. Did work experience help in getting the choice of your school and also in dealing with the curriculum?
A. I'm a fresher. I however believe that work experience helps one understand the industry perspective better.

Q. Getting into and sailing through a B-school is easier for a Science Graduate than for someone from Humanities background. Your comments please.
A. I don't think so. Given the diverse pool of educational backgrounds that b-schools attract, every discipline has something to contribute to everyone's learning. Hard and sustained effort makes everything possible; educational background is not an issue.

Q. What points did you consider in deciding the right time to go for the program and to start preparing?
A. I kept in mind that I'll have to strike a balance between college and entrance preparation, and felt that 8-9 months would be appropriate, given my speed to pick up things.

Q. Will an MBA degree add on to your existing career plan or did you decide to switch / start a career in management?
A. It'll add on to my existing career plan.

Q. Why did you decide to do MBA from this school?
A. IMI is India's first corporate sponsored b-school. It has the best faculty, and is known for its intellectual capital. Hence my decision to pursue my MBA from IMI.

Q. Were you able to get the school of your choice or did you compromise and opted for the best option that was open / available for you?
A. IMI was one of the schools of my choice.
