ESOP "ESOPs - they don't impress me anymore" was the new found mantra. The fat salary cheques were preferred to the ESOPs. Logically, ESOPs bandwagon is dominated by the infotech firms, with Wipro and Infosys the commonly recalled names. This year, these were conspicuous by their absence. Infosys dropped out of IIMs at the next moment after confirmation. Nandan Nilelkani, MD, had to clarify that there was no recruitement freeze. HCL technologies, Polaris and i2 Technologies - these dominated the campuses. Unlike last year, which saw virtual newcomers like IRIS, Caltiger, Mindtree, Blueshift, taking campuses like IIMC by storm, this year's Placement was a subdued lot. Last year, IRIS offered a dot com opportunity along with ESOPs. It offered students a chance to set up their own dot com at IRIS with IRIS holding 75% equity and providing the financial and technical support. No such frills this time. IIMB & IIMA attracted leading technology firms like iNautix, CTP, i2 technologies, etc. At IIMA, Indian heavyweights, Wipro and Infosys didn't come, and i2 Technologies was most preferred IT consultancy firm.
