"We were number 2, we tried harder!"

Placement 2001 at IIMB

  PFA Day 1

The PFA Day 1 at IIM Bangalore has been a great success with all companies vying with each other to get the very best students. The students who got through were very thrilled and could not express their joy in words.

Most of them said that it would take a day or two for the whole thing to sink in. It was a feeling of relief for those candidates who got through.

The concept of spot offers was introduced newly this year and this was used to the maximum extent by most of the companies.

The tally so far:

  • McKinsey - 5 offers, of which 4 accepted.
  • Boston Consulting Group - 3 offers, all accepted
  • AT Kearney - 6 offers, 4 accepted
  • Lehman Brothers - 7 offers, all accepted
    - Investment Banking, New York - 1
    - Investment Banking, London - 2
    - Capital Markets (Asia) - 2
    - Capital Markets (New York) - 2
  • JP Morgan - 4 offers, all accepted
    - Investment Banking Division - 1
    - Internal Consulting Services Division - 1
  • Deutsche Bank Global - 4 so far, may increase later
  • Deloitte Consulting - 6
  • Reuters - 2 offers, all accepted
  • i2 Technologies - 5 offers so far
  • Exeter - 5 offers so far

The number of total offers on PFA Day 1 does not include the number of PPO's obtained by IIMB students. Some of the students have already opted out of placements.

Ralph Heuwing, MD of Boston Consulting Group, India, and James Abraham, Director, BCG India, and Valetin, VP, BCG, were some of the people who were part of the BCG team.

Chandra Srinivasan, country head of AT Kearney's Indian operations, was also present as a part of the ATK team.

Most of the biggies had come with a big panel so that they can complete the process quickly. BCG, for example, had a panel of almost 20 people in toto. McKinsey people numbered about 15. AT Kearney's must have been around 10 to 12.

There was a lot of action happening at the IIMB campus and most of it was in the Management Development Centre. All parking slots were packed to the fullest extent as recruiters started arriving early in the morning.
