Management Lessons from Motion Picture 'Sarkar'

  • Self Control: The movie shows some great skills of self-control, when the Commissioner slaps the son of 'Sarkar' and him.

  • Sense of Justice (and Fairness) Towards Others: 'Sarkar' antagonized Rashid (Zakir Hussein) by refusing to let him carry on his illegal business in an area that was under his jurisdiction.
He denied him as it was against the benefit of the general public. Also when his elder son killed the actor of his film, he went against his own son, showing fairness and justice for all.

  • Definiteness of Decisions: 'Sarkar' is very clear of his decisions. Firstly, he made the decision when he was all done with the thinking process, and when he finally took the decision, everybody else accepted it knowing without doubt that his logic was reliable. It was his decision that he went against that of his son, but that proved right in terms of his grand-son, his reputation and his values.

  • Clear Vision of the Future They Wish to Create: All the decisions were in alignment with other over-riding objectives and moved them in the direction of this one decision. 'Sarkar' had a much defined picture of his aim of doing work, that he wanted to serve the society, even by going against the law, and for this, the police and the politicians supported him as well.

  • Definiteness of Plans (Sense of Purpose): Once Decided, a leader works towards implementing his plans by putting them into action. 'Sarkar' not only planned to take the revenge but also put it in action with the support of his younger son, and so making the society free of corrupt people like Madan Khurana, the Chief Minister.

  • Leaders are Believers: Firstly in themselves and then in the Universe's plan for their lives. They have a strong sense of destiny. 'Sarkar' had a firm belief in himself that whatever he was doing, he was doing in the interest of people, and that he would be able to accomplish it. He proved to be a far-sighted leader.

  • Doing More Than What's Paid For: Effort and sacrifice get leaders to the position of authority in the first place. 'Sarkar' is not indulging in any kind of financial transactions himself with the people he helps. He even refuses bribe money offered to him to allow an illegal operation to take place. This leads to conflict.

  • Pleasing Personality: People have to like the people they follow, and will do anything to provide help to great inspiring leaders (even to death). 'Sarkar' went to the jail and asked his son to leave the country so that he is saved from all the politics. He even stopped the public to protest against his arrest, which shows that he was a popular person among the public.

  • Empathy, Sympathy & Understanding: 'Sarkar' understood the feelings of the people. He even sympathized with the people. When a poor father came to him to ask for justice for his raped and killed daughter, 'Sarkar' consoled him by patting on his back and promised him his help, which makes the girl's father smile.
