Establishing the Centralized DM Information System

A centralized DM information system needs to be put in place to enable the coordination of disaster management efforts between all the entities involved, e.g. government, producers, warehouse owner, 3PLs, NGOs etc. The information system will have the following modules:

1. Information Capture Module: This module will capture the following details: -

  • List of the organizations part of the disaster management system, their expertise areas and the assets/supplies committed to disaster relief

  • Master list of warehouse locations and supply items

  • Available inventory in the warehouses

  • Logistics capability of the organizations and resources committed

  • In the time of disaster, demand based on locations and relief needed

    2. Execution & Orchestration Module: This module will be used to allocate various supplies to meet the demand from disaster struck locations and will instruct the logistics resources to fulfill the demand.

    3. Tracking & Tracing Module: This module will have the integration with the information systems of the participating organizations to update the details in real-time. The actions taken using the Execution & Orchestration module will be used by this module to update the inventory details and to notify suppliers/producers for replenishments, if the levels drop below service levels.

    4. Training Module: The Information System will have a training module to perform emergency drills to assess the performance of disaster relief work in a possible disaster scenario. This module will also help a new organization when it joins the DM consortium, by providing an overview of DM operations.
