CoolAvenues' Interview with:
G. V. P. Rajan
International Programme in Management for Executives (IPMX),
Batch 2008-09,
IIM Lucknow - Noida Campus.

  1. General Questions
  2. Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
  3. Interview-related Questions
  4. After Joining MBA

4. After Joining MBA

Q. Were you able to get the school of your choice or did you compromise and opted for the best option that was open/available for you?
A. I was able to get the programme of my choice as I applied only to schools which were meeting my selection criteria on most of the parameters. Some courses were having a better programme structure; some were having an international focus, etc., but more or less, they were meeting my requirements.

Q. Did work experience help in getting the choice of your school and also in dealing with the curriculum?
A. Work experience plays an important role both in getting into the programme and also in managing the curriculum. My exposure to HR and Energy Sector, managerial experience, played an important role to better understand the content.

Q. After joining the school, did you ever wish that you should have known certain more things about the school before you became part of it? What are these?
A. None.

Q. What is the toughest area to handle in your studies?
A. I think there is no tough area, its your inclination towards the subject that makes it relatively easy. I found Accounting & Finance topics a bit difficult to master.

Q. Which one is your best subject?
A. Strategy, Global HRM, International Finance, Carbon Markets.

Q. Is there stress level during studies?
A. There is optimum stress during the programme. The first 2 months are the most stressful as you have to adjust to the new regimen. After around 8-10 years in industry, you are not used the class room and campus life. Lots of readings, assignments, group work, case studies, etc., keep you busy most of the time.

Q. Who is the best faculty at your B-school?
A. Every faculty is a master in his/her own sphere. Everyone has his/her own unique style of teaching which is probably because of the subject they teach.

Q. What's the best and most admirable feature of your institute?
A. IIM Lucknow has started the Noida Campus exclusively for executive education. It is the first among the IIMs to do so. Noida is an excellent location, and has given the opportunity to develop a vibrant relationship with the industry.

Q. Scope of development in your existing curriculum.
A. The IPMX programme has been designed to meet industry needs. The participants are encouraged to provide suggestions on further improving the curriculum. At present, the curriculum is well in sync with the industry needs.

Q. Getting into and sailing through a B-school is easier for a Science graduate than for someone from Humanities background. Your comments, please.
A. I do not believe in this as some of my colleagues are from Humanities background. Moreover, there are subjects in IPMX which entirely focus on social and cultural aspects.

Q. Tips for those who wish to do MBA from your school.
A. IPMX is a programme with all the ingredients to help you develop as a global leader.

Concluded.
