Analysis

Function-wise placements:

On day one, morning slot, traditional leader Marketing was displaced from the top of the student's favourite functional area. IT led the honours with 27.5% of the batch opting for IT function. Same trend continued on day one, second slot. Information Technology led the field by whoopping 38% of the accepted offers and marketing was way behind with 14.5% of the acceptance. Finance/ Banking was second with 31% of the class of 2001 opting for it, up from 14% on the Day One (afternoon). Marketing picked up as more marketing firms took to the scene on day one, second slot. Consulting increased its share to 9%, up from 5% yesterday, and General Management also increased its share to 5,5%, up from 3.5% share yesterday afternoon. One student opted for partnership/ entrepreneurship.

But the highest salary offered among all functions was in General Management, which lead the highest salary with 14.5 Lakhs p.a. and the average salary of whoopping Rs. 9.5 Lakhs p.a. Average salary was around Rs. 6.25 Lakhs p.a. after accounting for latest offers.

Industry-wise placements:

A snapshot analysis of the industry-wise placement revealed that services sector attracted 87% of the batch. Consulting attracted 9% of the class, an increase of 4% over last afternoon, whereas finance garnered 31% share. IT services were second with 14.5 % of the class of 2001 opting for it. Consumer goods was third with 14% of the class opting for this section. Other manufacturing areas attracted 5.5% of the class.

Healthcare/Media were non-starters. Internet sector and Venture Capital firms were notable by their absence. What a change for Internet sector from the last year's hype! Where have the VC cowboys gone?

Manufacturing sector was second to the services as is the usual case. It had 12.7% of class routing for it. 11% of the class of 2001 opted for IT software sector, whereas 1 student opted for other High Technology area.
