Lateral Placements

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, IIMK, fifth Indian Institute of Management, was established in 1996 by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Kerala. In such a short span, it has established its place among the top Indian B-schools, if placements are any indication.

The average age of the class of 2001 is 26 years and four months, with average work experience of 35 months, and 82% of the class having worked in the Corporate world prior to joining MBA program. With such a rich profile of students, corporate are expected to make a beeline for them.

Placements 2001 started with lateral placements, for the people with work experience. The lateral placement was a big success with 15 students getting the offer. Ramco was the aggressive of the lot with 6 offers. GE Caps, Satyam, A.F. Ferguson, IBP were a distant second with 2 offers each, whereas Mynd Corporation picked up one student.

Highest salary offered was by GE Caps, which offered a mind-boggling Rs. 14 lakhs p.a. as highest salary (Rs. 11.5 lakhs p.a. being average salary offered by GE), whereas other firms also offered hefty salaries ranging from 4-5.5 lakhs p.a. with stock options.

Declaring lateral placements as a success, students and the placement committee are now gearing up for the final placements. The students are going through the notes, interacting with seniors to brush up their fundas, while the 15 "laterals" are happily watching the scene from sidelines. With such a good beginning to 2001 placements, everyone in eagerly looking forward to the final placement week.
